ˇ@ˇ@As a woman in Taiwan or a friend who cares about the women in Taiwan, do you have any understanding of the situation of women in Taiwan? Generally speaking, are Taiwanese women equal to men or not? If they are not, are most women superior or inferior? In what ways? You may have been fortunate, and thus think that women are lucky. However, if you take the social environment as a whole into consideration, the conclusion may be a little different.ˇ@ˇ@In this report, a multi-dimensional analysis of the situation of women in Taiwan is discussed in this report. For example, the legal system, educational opportunities, working conditions, economic resources available to women, general health conditions, access to policies, the right to decide, etc. are examined. This wholistic discussion will help to review changes that have occured and many also expose unchanged conditions that need more effort to become more equitable.
ˇ@ˇ@The purpose of this report is to promote understanding of our international friends regarding women in Taiwan, to enhance the bonding between us, and to become partners in making the world a better place for us all.
The total population in the Taiwan Area is 21,802,054
of which 10,613,311 are women. They represent 48.68% of the whole population. In other words, the ratio of men to women is 105/100 in April of 1998.
